Design firm DLR Group provided architecture and engineering of all buildings on site, and grandstand design. Architecture firm HNTB, which also designed Chicagoland Speedway, provided civil engineering and site development, landscape design, and race track design. Officials considered both the Missouri and Kansas side of the city but eventually settled with the Kansas side because of better funding. Attention was turned towards the Kansas City area in 1997.
